How do i write a letter asking the art department to sponsor me?
I got rejected from montclair state. To go into detail the school itself rejected me but the art department accpeted me. My dad met with the school and they are willing to give me another chance. I did what i was asked to send to the school. My dad now wants me to write to the art department asking for them to sponsor me so maybe they will help the schools descion in taking me. How should i state my case in this letter?

I would guess that you have a decent portfolio and not very strong academics? If the art department accepted you, it was probably on the basis of the portfolio. If the school denied you, it was probably because of your test scores and academic standing.
This is not an uncommon problem unfortunately. If your academics are improving in your senior year, you might ask the school to take another look at your record. Is it possible to retake some placement tests at this point? That could help too.
It is possible that the art department would go to bat for you if your portfolio is really outstanding but before you ask them to do that, why should they? What can you tell them about your work ethic, about your ability to succeed in academic coursework as well as studio coursework? What can you tell them you have learned from this?
I am not saying that to discourage you, but so that you will be realistic about this. Can you give them any assurances that you can focus on and improve your academic standing? If so, they may support you. That may mean talking to someone from a freshman portfolio review committee, or it may mean talking to a professor in the specific area of art that will be your focus: drawing, design, etc.
You certainly can try this route but your best bet may be to go to a community college for a year and prove yourself there before transferring to your chosen school. It would be okay to take some basic art studio and art history but concentrate more on the general academic courses: math, english, sciences, etc. to show that you can handle the work. There shouldn’t be any problems in transferring the credits for that coursework.
This is a tough lesson but an important one — you have to be balanced across all aspects of your life and studies to have as many options as possible. Best of luck to you!
