Ahh yes digital art, the twenty-seven year old oxymoron. First and foremost, anything done digitally is math not art, art requires a soul not just a random series of ones and zeros. Second off if you have a program do your art, or enhance your art, then it eliminates the purpose of your art, and if you can’t draw by hand, why try to do it by mouse or tablet, stupid.

Digital art is another medium thats hard for many to understand. But it is just another way to make an something for people to see and enjoy. Yes, you do need to know how to draw and draw well. The foundations for digital art is still the same as traditional art; you need to know color, design, perspective, and much more.
If you’re asking about the hardware… what you need is a solid computer with a graphics program and a drawing tablet. Programs like Photoshop, Painter, and Sketchbook Pro are ideal. Depending on your style you could also use Illustrator too. Digital art is expensive to set up overall. Start by drawing in a sketchbook, you’ll learn more there first before you start to invest a lot of money.
Good luck!

Digital encompases ALOT. Illustrations, animation, 2d, 3d, graphic design ect. Each may have a different or better aproach.
The more you know about traditional art, the better ANY digital art will be, even 3d. So you’ll still have to learn whatever any traditional art student does and maybe more depending on where your interests are. A wonderful tool to look into is a drawing tablet from WACOM. These are tablets that esentially alows you to draw on it in the same way one would use a paper and pencil. Just check out thier site and a few videos to see how that is done.
As for software, again that all depends on what you are looking to accomplish. For 2d digital painting and drawing Corel Painter is the top choice. 2d photo manipulations and photography enhanciments are best done in Photoshop. 3d programs for animation and 3d stills/ sculpture, one would look at 3dmax,Maya, or Zbrush.
Also, anyone who says digital art is not art has absolutly no clue.
